May Favorites

Happy June all you lovely friends! Aren’t you so happy allergy season is ending? I’m just happy to be out of the windy season here in West Texas. Spring is the WORST.

Anyways, I always enjoy hearing about what other people like, so I thought it’d be fun to share with you some of my favorite things in May, as well as things I am currently crushing on. Maybe through this, you will learn something new and then we can talk about it sometime! Introducing people to new things is incredibly fun to me. Anyways, without further ado, I introduce

“May Favorites”

Movie – Mad Max: Fury Road

I am surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie. It’s not just an action film — it’s an action film with a message. It’s about justice and freedom and love. It is all about the empowerment of women and I am all about that message. Every now and then, out of the blue, this movie pops into my head. It really left a lasting impression on me.

Person – Jehane Noujaim

This woman is AMAZING. She is an Egyptian documentary filmmaker who directed the Oscar nominated documentary film, The Square. It’s an inspiring film that I hope you can watch one day. But really, after reading interviews with this woman, I just really want to be friends with her. She sounds like an amazing person.

YouTube Videos – 99Korean

I’ve been trying to learn Korean lately and have found that these videos are SUPER helpful. I’ve watched quite a few videos from various YouTubers to learn Korean, and I think these are my favorite. They help with pronunciation and do a wonderful job at teaching Hangul. Also, the women who teach seem genuine and kind. My Korean is improving already!

Musical – Wicked

Honestly, I feel like this is less of a “May Favorites” and more of a “Life Favorites.” I’ve seen this musical three times now (first in New York, secondly in London, and thirdly in El Paso). I have loved this musical for a long time, but because I just recently watched the musical in person again, I thought it deserved a spot on this list. The music is phenomenal, the choreography is stellar, and the set design is gorgeous. If you ever have the chance to watch this play, please defy gravity and do. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

Audio Book – Finding Me: A Decade of Darkness, a Life Reclaimed: A Memoir of the Cleveland Kidnappings

I recently had lasik eye surgery and wanted to find a good audiobook to listen to so I could close my eyes and let them rest. This book gave me nightmares. Seriously. Not kidding. But Michelle Knight’s story is so inspiring and intriguing that I could not stop listening. If you’re ever on a road trip, consider buying this audio book which is read by Michelle Knight herself.

Yoga Videos – Yoga with Tim

Lately, I’ve been focusing less on cardio and more on strength training/toning. Yoga is a great way to tone the body. It’s quite difficult to find videos that are both doable and challenging. Tim’s videos are great for anyone who is past the beginning “let’s just stretch” yoga videos and wants a little more of a challenge. His videos aren’t super spiritual, which I like because I’m not into the whole “find your inner goddess” thing. And bonus: he is quite easy on the eyes. You can watch his videos here.
